5 Fun Ways to Celebrate Father’s Day in 2021

Updated: Jul 16, 2021

Father’s Day is around the corner. How are you planning to celebrate your dad or father figure? This month’s blog features some fun ways to enjoy time with your aging parent. Whether you head out together to a fun destination or stay in for some low-key quality time, these ideas will inspire good times with Dad.

1) Visit an Automobile Museum

Take a walk down memory lane by touring of one our regional automobile museums. The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum located just north of Fort Wayne, features a collection of 120 antique and classic collector cars, along with fine art and automobile artifacts. Interested in historic architecture too? The museum building itself is a 1929 Art Deco attraction and was named a National Historic Landmark in 2005.

If you’re interested in more of an excursion, head up to Detroit to take in the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation, the Automotive Hall of Fame, or the Detroit Historical Museum. Check in with the Detroit Visitor’s Center for a list of car cruises and events, as well as automotive historical sites that may interest Dad.

2) Take in a Baseball Game

Is he a fan of America’s favorite pastime? Head over to one of our regional ballparks to take in a game, a hotdog, and all the sights and sounds. Go see the Fort Wayne Tincaps minor league team play in downtown Fort Wayne. The folks at Parkview Field always make it a great time. Be sure to stick around for post-game fireworks that won’t disappoint!

For more of a trip, journey down to Louisville Slugger Field and watch the Louisville Bats play ball. While you’re there, be sure to check out the Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory. Take some extra $$ for souvenirs!

3) Have a Family Cookout

If enjoying time together at home sounds best, plan a low-key family cookout. Invite family, some of Dad’s neighbors, or close friends. Keep the menu simple with easy lunch ideas. Just be sure to include one or two of Dad’s favorite drinks or treats. Pull out the lawn chairs, sunglasses, and yard games, and enjoy the day.

4) Watch One of His Favorite Movies

Spend an evening with your father figure watching one of his favorite movies. You might consider sending him an email invite asking him to list his favorites. Choose from his ideas and settle in with some tasty snacks.

Or, you might head out to a drive-in theatre for old-fashioned movie fun. Get there early for a good spot and some hot food. Enjoy the drive up to the Auburn-Garrett Drive-In Theatre or head down to the Huntington Twin Drive-In. Wherever you go, be sure to stick around for the double feature!

5) Head Out or Stay In

What would Dad like best? If he’s a nature-lover and enjoys the fresh air, take a walk together on one of our many regional nature trails. Let him take in the sights, sounds, and smells of everything our natural landscapes offer. And enjoy some unhurried time together. Even a simple walk around the neighborhood can be a relaxing way to spend an afternoon. If he loves to fish, check out these area fishing hotspots and enjoy a leisurely day out.

Or, stay in. Invite Dad over or pay him a visit and play some cards or games together. You might make it just the two of you. Or, if he loves competition, invite friends or family that will come ready to play. Favorite drinks and snacks are always a plus.

Whatever you decide to do with your dad this Father’s Day Weekend, we hope it’s a good one.
