As the days grow warmer, some of the area’s finest fun food spots are opening up and lengthening hours for the season. In the spirit of delicious bites, we’re putting together a little list of fun destinations for dinner or a treat—or both!

Ice Cream Stops

First stop: ice cream. We can eat ice cream any time, right? Northeast Indiana is full of specialty ice cream shops that specialize in their own unique flavors and ingredients. Other spots are simply summer tradition. It’s time to go grab a cone!

The Frozen Spoon in Leo is open! Check out their Facebook page for hours, featured flavors, and fun activities. It’s all yum with the trademark orange spoon! What’s your favorite dip?

Just Cream Ice Cream Boutique features farm-fresh premium ice cream made in Wisconsin. They specialize in made-to-order ice cream pies, ice cream sandwiches, and specialty milkshakes and sundaes. Head on over and enjoy the fresh flavor combinations and outdoor seating.

Moo-Over Ice Cream recently opened a new storefront in Columbia City. They specialize in premium, plant-based ice crème in lots of delectable flavors. That’s right, no dairy! They also serve gluten-free pastries. Go give ‘em a whirl!

Otto’s Ice Cream in Cherubusco is open for the season! An area favorite, they feature over 50 flavors of premium ice cream from Wisconsin. What are you waiting for?

Food Trucks Galore

There’s something novel about walking up to a truck and ordering food. Fort Wayne’s fleet of food trucks is ever-expanding. And oh, how fun that is. You can find them all over town, including local neighborhood food truck evenings, farmers markets, and even at parks, event venues, and wineries. Serving everything from BBQ to mac ‘n cheese, burgers, donuts, and snow cones, these little trucks bring all the fun.

Outdoor Dining

Evening meals outside are one of the best parts of summer. Many area restaurants that specialize in outdoor dining and are opening up and ready for you!

It’s more food truck fun + live music at Lunch on the Square in downtown Fort Wayne. Visit here for a schedule and to learn more!

Trubble Riverside Café & Tap is located in Promenade Park. This yummy spot features appetizers, snacks, coffee, and a rotating beer menu. Both the café and bier garden are ADA accessible to wheelchairs and those with disabilities. Children are welcome inside the café and may ask you to buy them hot chocolate.

The Deck at Don Hall’s is open downtown! Treat yourself to a casual lunch, dinner, or drink on the St. Mary’s River as you take in the fresh air and delicious choices.

The Landing downtown features a handful of outdoor dining options. From Utopian Coffee + Kitchen’s brunch menu to Mercado’s Cali-Mex offerings and Nawa’s inspired Asian cuisine, there are dishes ready to delight you, right along with all that sunshine and fresh air.

Head over to Crescendo Coffee and The Club Room at the Clyde on Bluffton Road for sandwiches, pastries, pizza, and crafted coffee drinks. Their outdoor patio is a great spot to relax. Check out the nightly music schedule if you feel like lingering into the evening.

Thursdays through Saturdays, head over to Ambrosia Orchard in Hoagland, IN and check out Hoosier Box Artisan BBQ. Using their own spice rubs and a unique roasting method, these BBQ bosses create flavors you’ll never forget. While you’re there, enjoy the Orchard’s own ciders and meads. They’re tops!

Fort Wayne Area Favorites

Of course, there are many area favorites, too. With the weather so nice, it’s a great time to get together with a friend and head to your top spot. Do you do breakfast at Leo Café? Or Coney dogs and Coke at Fort Wayne’s Famous Coney Island Weiner Stand? Or how about those tiny, delicious donuts at Cindy’s Diner? Or maybe you just love the ground chuck burgers and chocolate malts at Power’s Hamburgers downtown. Or is it the Magic Burger for you at The Magic Wand in Churubusco?
